A MESSAGE FROM OUR NEW PASTOR
Dear Friends,
It is a great privilege to be able to write my first pastor’s letter for our newsletter. We will all come to know each other very well as we continue our faith journey together, but this is an opportunity for me to tell you a little about me and my background. Just a snapshot, as I am reasonably certain that you will hear more in the years to come.
I am a second career minister and I served the NYS Assembly for about 25 years on the staff of two capable and honorable members. I am married to Patti, and we have 6 children, all grown, 7 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild on the way. Patti retired from Albany Medical Center after serving there for more than 36 years as a Nurse. Patti and I have been married for 44 years and
counting.
I was ordained at Delmar Reformed Church, my home church, and while there I served Consistory as an Elder and as Vice President of Consistory. Both Patti and I led bible studies there and were active in the community. It was while there that I felt called to the ministry and started on that journey. I went to seminary locally in Albany on a part-time basis, working days and attending class in the evenings. I also spent two years serving as a Resident Chaplin at Albany Med. I have served at Third Albany, which we closed in 2023. That was my first church as a Pastor. In 2017 I also began to serve at New Baltimore Reformed, and I am still there today.
I will have office hours on Tuesday’s from 9am-12pm and other times as needed via appointment.
I am excited to be here and to have this opportunity to serve as your Pastor. God always has a plan, and sometimes it can be a surprise, like when I found myself called to the Ministry. This is a good place, full of hope and possibility and I am truly honored to have this opportunity to be a part of it. Just remember, I am the new kid on the block, so don’t be afraid to reintroduce yourself, it will take me some time to learn your names and faces. I look forward to spending time with all of you, and hearing your stories as well.
Peace,
Rick
